About Slay Lake City 2019

Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls - Salt Lake City is pleased to announce our second-ever camp for grown ups, Slay Lake City - a camp for women, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming adults! (formerly Rock Camp for Womyn). To learn more about our name change, click here. If you’re a grown-up from a marginalized gender who’s always wanted to learn an instrument and be in a band, this is the weekend for you! Slay Lake City is a fundraiser in support of our youth camps taking place in the summer of 2019.

Who: any woman, transgender, non-binary, or gender-non-conforming adult aged 18 and up who wants to learn an instrument, form a band, and collaborate with others in an empowering environment.

What: a 3-day weekend-long mini-camp where participants will receive lessons in vocals, bass, drums, guitar, or keys, form a band, write a song, and perform for their adoring fans!

If you’d like to participate but the registration fees will present a barrier for you, please let us know when you register. No previous musical experience is required to participate! All instruments and supplies will be provided.

Where: TBD - we are still in search for the perfect location in Salt Lake City, UT.

When: February 16-18, 2019. The daily schedule is as follows:
Saturday, February 16 from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm
Sunday, February 17 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (with an optional jam session to follow)

The Showcase will take place the evening of Monday, February 18th at 7:00 pm in Salt Lake City!

Price of participation:  Slay Lake City was created for two reasons: as a fundraiser for Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls - Salt Lake City, and to provide a camp with the same mission for grownups. Don’t you wish you could have gone to rock camp when you were a kid, we sure do! We’d love for you to contribute to our fundraising goal, but if finances are a barrier to participate, we still want you to apply and we’ll work with you to reduce the barriers to your participation. This could include payment options (eg. paying in multiple installments), a sliding scale price, and sponsorship).

Sliding Scale: We try to keep camp costs as low as possible. For example, everyone volunteers their time! The cost of putting on camp is $250/participant. If you can afford this, great! If you can afford to pay more than this to help create opportunities for others to participate, great! If you cannot afford $250, that’s cool too. You’ll be able to let us know that in the application form, and we will help eliminate the cost barrier for you.

Lunch and snacks will be provided during the weekend. Participation in the full weekend is essential, so please keep your schedule clear!
